How Long It Makes to Mediate
Mediation participants should plan to actively participate in mediation for at least three hours. Sessions are generally scheduled for the morning (9 am - noon), the afternoon (1 - 4 pm), or all day (9 am - 5 pm) during weekdays.
The length of time required depends on the complexity of issues presented, number of active participants, and the willingness of parties to resolve their dispute.
Mediating family law matters may be more complicated and intense than other matters are therefore may require additional time or several sessions.
Generally, it is unnecessary to schedule breaks because all parties will have some time to go to the bathroom, smoke, make personal calls, etc. between private discussions with the mediator.
