Do I Need an Attorney?
The Center for Legal Solutions does not require that parties be represented by attorneys to participate in mediation sessions. Our state-certified mediators are specifically trained to handle cases where one or more parties are representing themselves. The mediator cannot represent you but can help you understand the terms of negotiation.
If you need help finding an attorney to represent you, we suggest that you use the following resources:
If you believe that you need, but cannot afford legal representation, we suggest you contact the following resources:
- State Bar of Georgia Pro Bono Project: The Pro Bono Project is headquartered at the State Bar's Downtown Office and involves private attorneys in representation of the poor in civil matters.
- Atlanta Legal Aid Society: The Atlanta Legal Aid Society has represented poor individuals from Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett Counties in civil legal cases since 1924.
If you chose to represent yourself, you will be responsible for paying all of your mediation fees. If you are ordered to mediation through the Cobb County Superior Court Mediation Program and you qualify as indigent according to the Georgia guidelines for indigence, you may apply for a waiver of the mediation fee with that program's office. Applications for indigence must be made through the Cobb County Superior Court's Mediation Office prior to the scheduled mediation conference. Please note that you will be fully responsible for all fees owed to The Center for Legal Solutions regardless of any waiver or reimbursement offered by the Cobb County Superior Court Mediation Program.
If you have questions about The Center for Legal Solutions that are not answered on this web site, feel free to e-mail your question to questions@centerforlegalsolutions.org and we will do our best to respond within 48 hours.
